Dear Book Club Members,
The votes are in. The book selected for our next ABC meeting is “Minor Detail” by Adania Shibli. Set in 1949 after the Nakba, it explores the tragic events of a young Palestinian woman’s capture and killing by Israeli soldiers. The narrative follows a woman in Ramallah who becomes fixated on this historical ‘minor detail,’ offering a poignant reflection on war, violence, and memory. The novel delves into the core of the Palestinian experience, tackling themes of dispossession, life under occupation, and the challenge of crafting a narrative amidst ongoing erasure and disempowerment. The Next Two Meetings
Our meeting to discuss the first half of the book will take place on Saturday, November 25th, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. For the December 9th meeting, we plan to delve into the second half, continuing our exploration of this pertinent narrative. As part of our commitment to understanding the Gaza conflict, we have temporarily suspended our previous book selections until the new year. In support of those affected by this conflict, please help with a donation to The Canadian Palestinian Foundation (CPFQ) The foundation is collecting donations online to offer humanitarian aid to children in Gaza.

Land Acknowledgement Since our activities are shared digitally to the internet, let’s also take a moment to consider the legacy of colonization embedded within the technologies, structures, and ways of thinking we use every day.
