MAGIC KINGDOMS (2020)

Set against the backdrop of the looming handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997, "Magic Kingdom" is a heart-wrenching short film directed by Nelson Ng Chak Hei. The story follows Kit, a middle-aged single parent who brings his son, Chun, to California under the pretense of visiting Disneyland. However, Chun soon discovers the real intention of the trip - his own adoption. Despite the heartbreak that comes with separating, Kit must convince Chun that staying behind is the right decision. As they navigate the challenges of their new reality, they ultimately find out that not all plans come out the way they intended. Through beautifully composed cinematography and performances driven by emotion and depth, "Magic Kingdom" explores themes regarding family dynamics, love and loss while holding onto its focus on personal and cultural identity.

1997년 홍콩의 중국 반환을 배경으로 한 "매직 킹덤"은 Nelson Ng Chak Hei 감독의 가슴 아픈 단편 영화입니다. 이 영화는 중년의 홀 아버지인 킷이 디즈니랜드를 핑계로 하여 캘리포니아에 있는 자신의 아들 천에게  방문하며 벌어지는 이야기를 다룹니다. 그러나 아들 천은 머지 않아 여행의 진짜 의도가 그의 입양때문인것을 알게 됩니다. 헤어짐이라는 가슴아픈 상황에도 불구하고, 킷은 천에게 남아있는 것이 올바른 결정이라는것을 설득해야 됩니다. 그들은 현실에서 마주하는 어려움을 다루면서 모든 일들은 그들이 원하는 대로 흘러가지 않는다는것을 알게 됩니다. “매직 킹덤” 은 아름답게 구성된 촬영 기법과 깊은 감정선의 연기를 통해 개인 및 문화적 정체성에 초점을 기반으로한 가족의 역동성과 사랑, 상실이라는 주제를 탐구합니다.
