Harvesting the Light : The Graves of Diaspora (화광) (2021)

By Soyoung Kim

Details & Storyline
  • Through the eyes of two North Korean girls who were migrant labourers in Kamchatka in 1955, this short film "harvests light" from archival images to shed light on the graves of Korean people and colonial-era miners, inspired by the concept of "harvesting light" and photosynthesis in quantum biology. The film offers a unique perspective on history and is influenced by the final resting place of Han Jin, a North Korean writer, and images of Korean people and their graves in Ushutobe and Sakhalin.
